Rio Tinto Bell Bay Aluminium is celebrating its exceptional women leaders, who have been recognised at the 2025 Women in Resources and Manufacturing Tasmania Awards.
Superintendent – Planning, Engineering and Stores Teresa Lemaire was awarded the Inclusion and Diversity Champion in Tasmanian Resources, acknowledging her dedication to fostering an inclusive workplace.
Graduate Mechanical Engineer Lauren Brooks took out the Exceptional Young Woman in Resources award, with Contractor Management Advisor Samara Ignoti highly commended in the same category.
Potrooms Process Controller Lauren Meyer was also a finalist for the Outstanding Tradeswoman/Operator/Technician in Tasmanian Resources category.
Teresa said her own personal journey had inspired her commitment to inclusion and diversity.
“As a migrant living in Australia, I have firsthand experience of how people can thrive in an inclusive and diverse environment. Most of my career, I have been the only female and black person in the room. My experiences have made me resilient and taught me to be a leader who stand up against discrimination and marginalisation,” Teresa said.
Lauren expressed gratitude for the encouragement she has received throughout her career.
“I am grateful for the support from my family and my colleagues who have provided opportunities to develop my skills and leadership abilities. I aspire to be a trusted engineer known for respect and integrity. I am excited about building a career in the resources industry and explore the possibilities ahead,” Lauren said.
Rio Tinto Bell Bay Aluminium General Manager Richard Curtis praised the award recipients for their leadership and contributions to diversity in the sector.
“Our finalists’ achievements demonstrate what is possible in the manufacturing and resources industry and highlights the immense value diversity brings to our workplaces,” Richard said.
“The long-term success of the sector depends on attracting and retaining talented individuals from all backgrounds. I congratulate all the finalists and wish Teresa and Lauren the very best at the national awards in Canberra later this year.”
