Bell Bay Aluminium’s Lachie Geard has been recognised as a finalist at the 2024 Apprentice of the Year at the Tasmanian Training Awards.
Held in Launceston on September 6, 2024t, the awards celebrate excellence in vocational education and training in Tasmania.
Lachie was named a finalist for the Apprentice of the Year Award earlier this year after completing Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician at TasTAFE.
“This recognition demonstrates what can be achieved when you put your mind to it,” Lachie said.
“During my four years at TasTAFE, I worked hard to be the best I could - studying and aiming to gain as much knowledge that I could to take back to my workplace and put into practice.
“I have found so much confidence through this apprenticeship and it has opened so many opportunities for me including my inclusion in the Bell Bay Electrical Site Safety Committee and ensuring people are across Australian Standards.
“The support of my work leaders and tradespeople through this period has been amazing. I am fortunate to find my work incredibly rewarding and look forward to each day on-site.”
BBA General Manager Richard Curtis said Lachie is an exceptional tradesperson, who always looks after others and puts safety first.
“Lachie’s strong work ethic, practical skills, and his ability to think and adapt make him an asset to our organisation,” Mr Curtis said.
“Lachie takes great pride in his work and can be relied upon on to investigate issues thoroughly and provide solutions of a high standard.
“It has been an absolute pleasure to see Lachie grow and flourish at BBA and being nominated as a finalist is in recognition of his hard work and dedication over this period.”
