Bell Bay Aluminium has appointed Shona Markham as general manager.
Shona, who started as a graduate at Bell Bay in 2004, is currently Metal Products manager at Boyne Smelters Limited (BSL) in Gladstone, Queensland. She replaces Kevin Taylor, who has taken on the new Gladstone-based role of general manager, Operations Support for Pacific Operations, Rio Tinto Aluminium, after two years as Bell Bay general manager.
In her previous time at Bell Bay, Shona, who holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Materials Engineering), progressed from graduate to superintendent, Metal Products, before moving to BSL in 2009. At BSL, Shona has held a broad range of leadership and managerial roles, including in Site Services, Potlines, Metal Products, Health, Safety, Environment, and Business Improvement.
Rio Tinto Aluminium Pacific Operations managing director Kellie Parker said, “Shona’s 16 years’ experience in the industry makes her an ideal fit for the role at Bell Bay. Across her broad operational and functional experience, she has demonstrated strong people skills, business acumen and leadership skills. With challenging times ahead for the industry in Australia, these skills will stand Shona and the Bell Bay team in good stead.”
Shona, along with her husband Chris, who is a Tasmanian and their three children, will relocate to the state from Queensland.
Kevin Taylor commenced in his new role on 1 February. Bell Bay Aluminium Carbon and Business Improvement manager Mark Gerrard is acting in the general manager role until Shona Markham commences in the role on Monday 6 April.
