Bell Bay Aluminium’s Alicia Sargent has been recognised as Tasmania’s Inclusion and Diversity champion at the 2024 National Women in Resources Awards held in Canberra on 10 September.
“To be recognised among such a high calibre of finalists is an honour and a testament to the collective efforts of my colleagues at Bell Bay who are working to build a workplace where everyone belongs,” Alicia said.
“Inclusion and diversity are guiding principles that enrich workplaces and communities. True progress lies in embracing our differences and creating environments where every voice is heard, respected and valued.
“By fostering an inclusive environment business are more robust and resilient. I challenge us all to keep working together to break down barriers and to create opportunities for all individuals to succeed and in turn for our organisations to succeed.”
BBA General Manager Richard Curtis said creating a diverse and inclusive workplace was key to a modern mining and manufacturing sector.
“I am incredibly proud of Alicia’s achievement. Alicia has played a pivotal role in supporting and empowering our teams to embrace diversity and foster an inclusive workplace,” Mr Curtis said.
“Our belief is that the long-term sustainability of our sector relies on attracting and retaining people from all backgrounds.
“These awards recognise the valuable contribution so many women make to our industries and communities.”
