To mark 60 years of aluminium smelting in Tasmania, Bell Bay Aluminium will open to the public on Sunday 20 and 27 September to give Tasmanians a unique look at the first aluminium smelter built in the southern
hemisphere.
General manager Ray Mostogl said the open days are a fantastic opportunity to find out about a business with a proud history and committed future in Tasmania.
"If you have ever wondered what the inside of an aluminium smelter looks like this is a rare opportunity to find out. The guided bus tours by our knowledgeable and experienced staff will provide an insight into how our aluminium products are made," Ray said.
Historical displays and memorabilia will be showcased in the on site visitor's centre and cafeteria. Displays will include the F1 in Schools™ Technology Challenge demonstrations, TasNetworks' Sparks display and colouring in for kids and the TasWater water trailer program.
Refreshments will be available for purchase from onsite café, The Oven Bakery.
Visitors can register for a guided bus tour once inside the site. Please be advised that for safety reasons tour group sizes will be limited.

How to get there: Follow the East Tamar Highway about 40 minutes from Launceston. Turn left at the roundabout toward Bell Bay, and left again at the Bell Bay Aluminium sign to enter the visitor car park.
