Queechy High School teams dominate F1 in Schools National Final

In what was a close competition, the all girls team from Queechy High School, Golden Diversity were announced as National Champions in the Professional Class at tonight's awards dinner held at Titanium Security Arena in Adelaide. Instant Transmission also representing Queechy High School finished in third place. Hyper Drive from Trinity Grammar School in Victoria finished second.

In the professional class, Golden Diversity won Best Verbal Presentation, Best Team Portfolio, Best Manufactured Car and Best Engineered Car. Instant Transmission won Best Engineered CAD, Knockout Champions, Grand Prix Race Award and Fastest Lap.

In their first national final, Zeal Tech Racing, also from Queechy High School won the Grand Prix Race Award and Fast Lap in the Development Class.

Murat Djakic, Queechy's STEM co-ordinator was recognised as a Re-Engineering Fellow and Bell Bay Aluminium was awarded the 2017 John Button Memorial Award for Outstanding Contribution to STEM education for its support over the past 10 years of F1 in Schools In Tasmania.

Golden Diversity will now represent Australia in the Professional Class at the F1 in Schools World Final in Kuala Lumpur late September.

Lou Clark, community relations specialist at Bell Bay Aluminium said "This competition is the largest secondary school technology program in the world and Tasmanian schools have a strong history of success in the program at a national and international level. We are extremely proud to support this innovative program in Tasmania that engages students in STEM and where students can learn for themselves just how exciting careers in these areas can be.

Tonight's results are a reflection of the hard work that these students and their teachers have put in to this project over the last 12 months and we congratulate each student who has competed in Adelaide this week on their outstanding achievements."
